Lesson 48: On Being a “Yes” to Love

on

Today’s chapter was beautifully written and reminds the reader of what it means to really want love or to want to be present in life. Of course, most of us already know that love can come in many forms and might happen completely unexpected. The person you fall for can look entirely different than you thought they would or work in an industry you never expected to see yourself interested in. But exactly because we don’t know, we need to allow ourselves to be surprised. Be willing to take risks or say yes to things that you may have said no to in the past. Which is hard because it brings with it a certain degree of vulnerability. It brings the risk of being disappointed and hurt. But it might just be worth the risk, right?

“A risk with an assured outcome is not a risk. That is simply you playing small in your life.”

Today’s practice exercise required me to make a list of all the risks I have not taken or actions I have avoided in my quest for love. Then, for each response, I had to do the following sentence completion:

  1. I’m afraid if I do this, I’ll…
  2. By avoiding doing this, I’m protecting…
  3. The actions I could take that would represent a risk are…
  4. Those actions that I am willing to take are…
  5. I will take these actions by…

I’m gonna do this exercise in my journal tonight but think you guys might find it as insightful as I (hopefully) will!
